cos-feather-river-crislyn-chewning-text-sized.jpgWEED – The College of the Siskiyous Lady Eagles swept Feather River in their final GVC double-header of the season, 8-0, and 11-5, last Friday. COS also swept the Golden Valley Conference, going 20-0 (47-3). COS is ranked second in the state, and first in the northern region.

In game-one against Feather River, the Lady Eagles wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard. Crislyn Chewning led off with a triple down the right field line. Then, with one out, Ali Paz blasted a 2-run dinger, to put COS up 2-0. Two batters later, Katie Zauner went yard to make it 3-0.

Neither team scored for the next three innings, until COS added three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nikki Kemper was hit by a pitch to lead off. Kemper moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Laura Thorp. Chewning drove in Kemper, to make it 4-0, with a single. Chewning stole second base, and moved to third on a fly out to right field. Ali Paz singled, driving in Chewning to increase the lead to 5-0. Paz scored on a double by Zwetschke, giving COS a 6-0 lead after five innings.

The Lady Eagles closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carlene Morgan led off with a single. Kaylin Marron doubled and Morgan moved to third base. Thorp was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chewning singled to drive in Morgan and make it 7-0. Marron scored on a sacrifice fly by Brittnee McNeeley, to end the game 8-0.

Chewning was perfect at the plate, going 4-4, with two runs, two RBI, two steals, and a triple. Paz went 2-3, with two runs, three RBI, and a home run. Zauner homered, went 2-3, and stole a base. Zwetschke went 1-3, with an RBI, and a double. Jackie Imhof picked up her twenty-fourth win (6IP, 3H, 0BB, 11K).

In game-two, the Lady Eagles dominated early, scoring three runs in the first inning and four in the fourth inning, to lead 7-0. COS appeared to be on cruise control, but Feather River decided to make life difficult.

With one out in the sixth inning, Feather River had already added three runs, making it 7-5, and was threatening to score more. Imhof relieved starter Becca Anderson and ended the threat, striking out one batter.

The Lady Eagles responded to Feather Rivers’ offense outburst by scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 11-5, which was also the final.

For COS, Zwetschke went 3-4, scored a run, drove in three, and had a double. Chewning was 2-3, with three runs, three RBI, a double, and a walk. Zauner went yard, drove in four runs, and wast 2-4. McNeeley was 2-4 with a run. Paz went 1-3, with two runs, an RBI, a walk, and a steal. Courtney Wooden had a double, scored two runs, took a walk, and went 1-2.

Anderson started and recorded her eleventh win (5.1IP, 5R, 3ER, 9H, 0BB, 4K). Brie Melton pitched the seventh inning (0R, H, BB).

The Lady Eagles are now awaiting state playoff seeding information.
