svpt-small.jpgETNA – The Etna Lady Lions softball team took a pair from the Tulelake Lady Honkers on Friday, 15-1 and 8-0.

Etna jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning of game one with 10 runs. Tandy Thackeray doubled, singled, drove in a run and scored a run in the inning. Tessa Burrone walked twice and scored twice.

The Lady Lions upped their lead to 11-1 in the second inning. With one out, Jennifer Hanes singled, stole second, and scored on an Andrea Pearson base hit.

Tulelake broke the shutout in the top of the third inning. Juanita Garcia led off with a walk. Alma Vidrio reached on a fielder’s choice, that erased Garcia at second base. Michelle Rupert ripped a base hit to left field, scoring Vidrio to make the score 11-1.

Etna responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to extend its lead to 15-1—the final score. Paige Finley reached on an error, and went to second on a passed ball. With one down, Kassie Federico singled, moving Finley to third base. Federico stole second. Katie Eiler reached on an error,and Finley scored. Federico went to third on the error. Eiler stole second. Federico scored on a sacrifice fly by Ilima Adams, and Eiler went to third. Hanes doubled, plating Eiler. Caressa Kendrick sent Hanes home with a base hit.

Paige Finley recorded her 23rd win of the season in game one, and her 24th win in game two. Finley had a perfect game going in the second game before being relieved.

Etna (10-2, 24-6) goes to Mt. Shasta (9-1, 23-3-1) to tangle with the Shasta Cascade League leading Lady Bears on Wednesday, May 12 for what is likely to be the championship deciding double header.

Tulelake goes to Mt. Shasta on Monday.
