Yreka v Lakeview Frosh & Var (3) front

sis-dist-ad-300.jpgnsa-in-story.jpgKLAMATH FALLS – The Yreka Lady Miner varsity and frosh basketball teams both had a tough time in the opening round of the Basin Best Tournament held at Mazama High School, on Monday.

The varsity stayed close to the Lakeview Lady Honkers the first quarter, but trailed by 13 at the half, 29-16. By the end of the third quarter, Lakeview had blown the game open, leading 40-20. The Lady Honkers went on to win by 23 points, 52-29.

Jaylene Philips led Yreka in scoring with 10 points. Ashley Lemos had 6.

The Lady Miner frosh found themselves in a 10-point hole, 12-2,  at the end of the first quarter to the more experienced Lady Honker junior varsity squad. Yreka had a better second quarter, but still lost ground, trailing 22-10 going into the intermission. It was 28-14 at the end of three quarters, and Lakeview went on to win 41-27.

Several of the y0ung Lady Miners showed flashes of brilliance during the game, especially Emily Andrus, Allison Charleboix, and Riva Martin. Martin led Yreka with 7 points, and Charleboix had 6.
