Yreka 2 – Corning 1

Yreka Cv ParedesGRENADA – It would be unfair to say that the Yreka Lady Miners backed into the NSCIF D-I playoffs. However, third-seeded Yreka went 1-2-2 in their last five league games-including a loss to sixth-seeded Corning. Then again, snow had covered their soccer fields for weeks, and practice was confined to a gym.
It didn’t take the Lady Miners long to establish that their late season let down was just a bump in the road. Corning may have had a round-one upset in mind, but in less than five minutes Yreka would have all the scoring they needed to move on to the semifinals.
At the 3-minute mark, Kylie Hahn found the back of the net off of a Kelsey Robberson corner kick. Just two minutes later, Carrie Turner chipped a pass across the front of the Corning goal to Carmen Paredes, who hammered it home to make the score 2-0.
The Lady Miners continued to dominate the rest of the half and went into the intermission up 2-0. Corning upped the pressure in the second half, but failed to score until the final minute of added time to make the final Yreka 2 – Corning 1.
