YREKA – The Yreka Lady Miners evened their Northern Athletic League record at 2-2, with a 9-5 win over the Central Valley Lady Falcons, last Friday.
The Lady Falcons put up a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, and Yreka scored a single run in the bottom half, to give CV its only lead of the game. The Lady Miners tied the score with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Then, Yreka scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take the lead 4-2.
The Lady Falcons drew even at 4-4, with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lady Miners regained the lead with a run in their half of the inning, 5-4. Yreka broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs, to lead 9-4. CV added a single run in the top of the seventh, making the final 9-5.
Sara Jones led the Yreka offense with a perfect day at the plate, going 3-3, with a run, an RBI, two doubles, and a walk. Ashlie Smith and Amber Sinnott were also perfect with the bat. Smith went 4-4, with a run and a steal. Sinnott was 3-3, with a run and two steals. Alyssa Scala, Brie Phillips, and Stephanie Leyva all went 2-4. Phillips and
Leyva each scored two runs, and had a steal a piece. Scala scored a run and had a steal.
Kayla Graves went the distance for the win (7IP, 5R, 11H, 0BB, 2K).
The Lady Miners (10-12) visit the Corning Cardinals (2-1, 15-11) on Tuesday, April 22 for another NAL contest.
