SUSANVILLE – The Yreka Lady Miners soccer season came to an end yesterday against the Lassen Lady Grizzlies. It was the first time in half of a decade that Yreka has failed to make the NSCIF D-1 soccer championship game.
Lassen held a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Miners battled back to tie it 1-1 in the second half via a Kylie Hahn penalty kick. The Miners had several opportunities to win the match in overtime, but were unable to get the big goal.
The semi-final match was decided by penalty kicks after both teams failed to score in the OTs. Yreka missed their first and fourth attempts, while Lassen made all four of their shots, to give them a 2-1 victory and date in the championship game against defending champion Sutter. Sutter defeated West Valley 5-0 in the other semifinal match.
The Lady Miners finished the season second in the Northern Athletic League with a record of 5-2-3 (6-3-3).
