bowen-ad-rev.jpgYREKA – The Yreka Lady Miners volleyball team smoked the Corning Cardinals (5-3) last Thursday night, 3-0. It was perhaps the Lady Miners most impressive showing of the season.

After winning game one 25-7, Yreka found itself in a 10-3 hole in game two. The Lady Miners fortunes changed, however, with a kill by Olivia Duncan that began a 7-0 run. Duncan’s kill made the score 10-4 and sent her to the service line. She promptly nailed an ace. Alexis Yaple and Mallory Greenfield followed with kills, to bring the score to 10-7. Yaple and Greenfield combined for a block to tie the score at 10-10.

Corning regained the lead, but Yreka battled back to lead 15-14 on a pair of aces by Jessany Munoz, and at 18-17 on a Greenfield ace.

The score was tied 22-22, when Corning was called for being in the net, giving Yreka a 23-22 lead and the serve. A block by Yaple made it game point, 24-22. An ace by Mackenzie Allen sealed the win for the Lady Miners 25-22.

Yreka was in control of game three most of the way, leading by as many as nine points, 23-14. Corning closed to within two points, 24-22, but a kill by Munoz gave the Lady Miners the game win 25-22, and the match 3-0.

With the win, Yreka improved to 4-4 in the Northern Athletic League. The Lady Miners travel to Cottonwood to take on West Valley (7-1) on Tuesday, November 3.
