ETNA – The Etna Lion JV squad had a tough time against the JV Trinity Wolves last Saturday, dropping both games of a double-header, 10-6 and 16-4.
Etna started well in game-one, leading 1-0 after the first inning. Colby Rimmer reached on an error, and then stole second and third base. He scored on a botched pick off attempt.
Trinity, however, put up five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Lions came up with a short answer in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs. Tristan Burns-Edel led off with a walk, and moved to second base on a wild pitch. With one out, Travis Parry singled, advancing Burns-Edel to third base. Parry stole second. Rimmer took a walk to load the bases. A single by Nick Hansen plated Burns-Edel and kept the bases loaded. Max Detrick took a walk, forcing in Parry. A double play ended the inning, with Etna trailing 5-3.
Trinity added two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth, to increase its lead to 8-3.
Etna scored two runs in the fifth inning, to cut the deficit to 8-5. Charles Hawkins led of with a single and then swiped second base. He moved to third base on Will Johnson’s ground out. Burns-Edel singled to drive in Hawkins. Burns-Edel advance to all the way to third on a throwing error by the Trinity catcher. He scored on a passed ball.
Trinity finished its scoring with two runs in the sixth inning to lead 10-5.
Etna scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two down, Hansen reached on an error. Hansen stole second. Detrick was hit by a pitch. Hawkins singled to drive in Hansen to make it a 10-6 ballgame, which was also the final score.
Tristan Burns-Edel led Etna at the plate, going 2/3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Charles Hawkins went 2/3 with a run, a walk, and two steals. Travis Parry was also 2/3 with a run and a steal. Nick Hansen scored a run, drove in a run, swiped a base and was 1/4. Colby Rimmer took a walk, scored a run and stole a pair of bases. Rimmer started on the hill and took the loss.
