FORT JONES – Clint Johnson gave up one hit through four innings, and the Etna Lion bats pounded out 14 runs to beat the Trinity Wolves 14-2. The win made the Lions 4-1 in the Marble Mountain Tournament and secured third place.
The Lions pounced on the Wolves right from the start, posting four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Etna added two runs in the second, and exploded for seven runs in the third inning. A run in the fourth inning brought the lions to their final total of 14.
Trinity sat on a goose egg until the top of the fifth inning, when a combination of two walks, three errors and a Wolf hit put two runs across the plate to make the final 14-2.
Greg Monday continued to crank out the hits, going 3-for-3, with four runs, three steals, an RBI, and was hit by a pitch. Logan Dysert was 3-for-4, with three runs, two steals and an RBI. Jordan Pehle-Munson went 2-for-3, with two RBI, and a run. Clint Johnson was 1-for-3, with a run and an RBI, as well as being hit by a pitch.
Johnson went four innings on the mound, giving up no runs, one hit, striking out seven, and walking three. Skyler Schneider pitched the fifth inning, allowing two unearned runs, one hit, two walks, and striking out two.
Etna is now 5-3 this season with all three losses coming against upper division
In the semi-final game against the Central Valley Falcons, the Lions had trouble scoring runs, falling 4-1. The Falcons scored a run in the first inning, and two more in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
Etna came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1, and had a couple of opportunities to add to the run total, but failed to execute.
For the Lions, Greg Monday went 1-for-2, with a walk and a run. Trevor Kendrick was 1-for-2, and Logan Dysert had an RBI.
The Lions made it to the semi-finals with some last inning heroics when they came from behind to beat Hoopa, 4-3, and win Pool “A” in the night cap on Friday.
Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Etna trailed 3-1. But, a pair of pinch hit doubles from Ben Besoain and Frank Johnson, combined with a pinch hit from Jordan Pehle-Munson provided the Lions with three runs and the win.

Clint Johnson got the win for the Lions in game two of pool play, against Tulelake.
Etna blanked the Weed Cougars, 10-0, in a combined no-hitter, in game one of the tournament.

Clint Eastlick got the start and the win for the Lions. Eastlick went four innings, striking out six, walking two, and allowing no hits or runs. Kenny Muelrath finished out the game in the fifth inning, striking out one, walking one, and allowing no hits, or runs.
Weed’s only base runners were Tye Andrews, Travis Andrews, and Cameron Dayen via walks, and Travis Andrews on an error.
