West CoastThe Yreka Miners varsity football squad began the 2010 campaign with a come-from-behind 24-17 win over the Trinity Wolves at Miner Stadium on Friday night via a Shafer to Dow TD pass with 1:58 to go.

The defending NSCIF D-III Wolves were first on the board. After stopping an early Miner drive at their doorstep, the Wolves posted a touchdown on a 97-yard run by Luke Curran.

Trevor Daugherty booted a 37-yard field goal for Yreka. The Miners went to the locker room down 7-3 at the half.

Yreka took the lead, 10-7, on its first possession of the second half, when Dean Shafer hit Sarome Eng with a 20-yard strike.

Trinity quickly regained the lead, 14-10, on a 6-yard run by Jon Moore.

The Miners went on a 54 yard march, capped by a 1-yard run by Albert Sanders, taking back the lead, 17-14.

Trinity tied it, 17-17, on a 40-yard field goal.

The Miners scored the winning TD, with 1:58 left in the game on a Shafer to Dillon Dow 24-yard connection for six. Daugherty added the PAT, making it 24-17.

Unofficially, Travis Fonseca carried 24 times for 167 yards. Dean Shafer was 7/10 for 120 yards and a pair of TDs.

The Miners (1-0) host the rival Mt. Shasta Bears (0-1), who lost their opener to Modoc, 39-24, on Friday, September 3.
