yreka-v-cv-boys-girls-1-front.jpgYREKA – It took the Yreka Miners boys soccer team less than 20 minutes to score all the goals they needed last Tuesday to defeat the Central Valley Falcons. It took the Lady Miners less than a minute to score their game-winner.

Carlos Ontiveros notched the Yreka boys’ first goal three minutes into the match on a header. Ross Perry picked up the assist. Harry Rea-Downing made it 2-0 at the 15

minute mark. Three minutes later, Perry scored thegame-winner, making 3-0.

Other first half goals came from Patrick Erhard, Aiden McKee, and Rea-Downing (2).

Rea-Downing completed his hat trick in the second half and Ontiveros tallied his second goal to give Yreka an 8-0 lead. Central Valley scored both its cosmetic goals in the last four minutes of the match, to make the final 8-2.

The Miners improved to 4-2-1 in Northern Athletic league play and travel to Corning on Thursday.

One minute into the girls varsity match, Amber Fiock found the back of the net. It was the only goal the Lady Miners would need, but they tacked on nine more just to be sure.

Kelsey Robberson scored the first of her three goals at the six minute mark. Six minutes later, Brie Phillips blasted a shot from about 20 yards to make the score 3-0. Next to score was Kaeli Pyles with the first of her pair of goals to make it 4-0. Other first half goals came from Robberson (2), Pyles (2), Miriam Cowley, Carrie Turner, and Robberson again (3).

Taylor Dowse registered Yreka’s final goal off an assist by Natasha Cruz, in the 58th minute. Cruz and Kendall Clymer combined in goal for the shutout.

The Lady Miners improved to 3-3-1 in Northern Athletic league play and travel to Corning on Thursday
