The Yreka Miners came out fired up for their homecoming game against the Central Valley Falcons on Friday night in Miner Gym, taking a 17-12 lead into the second quarter. Central Valley came back to lead by five points going into the intermission, 32-27, but the Miners were still hanging tough.
Starting the second half, hopes were high for an upset and the Miners first league win since…well, a while ago. Central Valley wasted no time crushing those hopes, as the Falcons outscored the Miners 18-2 in the third quarter, to take a 51-29 lead into the final frame. Yreka’s only basket in the quarter came from Ryan Kennedy at the 5:25 mark. In fact, except for a pair of freebies by Grant Cowley, Kennedy was the Miner offense in the second half, scoring 10 of their 12 points. The Falcons went on to win, 60-39.
Kennedy led Yreka with 14 points and 5 boards. Cody Hoff and Jayson Sadowski each added 5 points apiece. Hoff had 6 rebounds and Tyler Johnson had 5 boards.
