REDDING – The Yreka Miners went 1-3 at the Shasta Lake Bass Easter Baseball Classic. Their only win was over Fall River, 7-4, on Thursday morning. Yreka lost to Sutter, 8-0, in their other Thursday game. Yreka did not qualify for play on Friday. Miner Kurt Lorenzini was selected for the All-Tournament team.

Against Fall River, Andrew Ward and Rodney Grant each went 2-4, with a run and two RBI a piece. Ward also had a steal. Andrew Jones went yard, and had a pair of RBI, going 1-4. Wade Berryhill went the distance on the mound for the Miner win (7IP, 4R, 2ER, 6H, 3BB, 8 K, HB).

Ward got the only hit for the Miners in the Sutter game, going 1-3. Robert Moeai reached base twice via walks. Berryhill walked and had a pair of steals. Lorenzini had the start on the hill and was tagged with the loss (4IP, 6R, 4ER, 3H, 8BB, 3K).

Shasta scored a run in the second and a pair in the third inning, to lead 3-0. Yreka put up a run in the top of the fourth, making the score 3-1. Shasta, however, scored three in the bottom half of the inning, and then put the game away with five more runs in the bottom of the fifth, invoking the 10-rule run, for the 11-1 win.

Kurt Lorenzini went 1-3 with a steal. Rodney Grant was 1-3, and Devin Howard was 1-2. Andrew Ward was granted three free passes by the Wolves, and scored Yreka’s only run. Clint Amaral started the game for the Miners and took the loss (3IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, BB, K).

Yreka had a much more competitive game with the Maxwell Panthers. Both teams put a run on the board in the first inning. Neither team scored for the next three innings. Then, in the top of the fifth inning, Yreka had runners on first and third base. Brandon Meeks was caught in a pickle between first and second, which allowed Lorenzini to score from third and take a 2-1 lead.

Elation for the Miners turned to disappointment, when the Panthers put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Miners were unable to score in the sixth and seventh innings, and the Panthers won 4-2.

Lorenzini led the Miner’s offense, going 2-3, with a walk, three steals, and scoring both Miner runs. Wade Berryhill was 2-3. Andrew Ward went the distance on the mound for Yreka and took the loss (6IP, 4ER, 8H, 3BB, 8K).

The Miners are now 6-12 overall, and will travel to Corning on Tuesday, April 1 for a Northern Athletic League contest. Yreka is 0-1 in the NAL.
