nsa-in-story.jpgFORT JONES – The Trinity Wolves made it slightly more interesting this time around, but the Yreka Miners still won their third game in less than a week over the Wolves, at the Marble Mountain Tournament on Thursday. Yreka beat Trinity last week 8-2 at the Nor Cal preseason tournament in Redding, and 14-4 on Tuesday in Yreka.

Yreka struck first on a a one-out blast over the left-center field fence by Joe Wilson, in the top of the second inning.

Yreka upped its advantage to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Zach Salvestro led off with a single, and promptly stole second base. A single by Wade Berryhill plated Salvestro. Berryhill stole second, and went to third on a passed ball. J. Wilson wound up on second base after the Trinity center fielder dropped his shallow fly ball. Berryhill scored on the error. J. Wilson moved to third on Christian Charles’ sacrifice bunt. J. Wilson scored on a Josh Lee sac fly.

Trinity made it 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning on a double, two singles, a walk, and an error.

Yreka closed out the scoring in the top of the fifth inning with two more runs to make it 6-2. Kyle Casson led off with a base hit, and moved to second base on a Taylor Barlow sac bunt. Lane Wilson reached on an error, moving Casson to third base. Another error allowed Salvestro to reach. Casson scored on the error, and L. Wilson moved to second base. L. Wilson and Salvestro each moved up 90 feet on a double steal. Wilson scored on a single by Berryhill.

Trinity’s only remaining threat came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when they had runners on first and second with one out. A strikeout and fly out ended that bid.

Wade Berryhill went 2/4 for the Miners, with two RBI, a run, and a steal. Josh Lee was 1/2, with an RBI, a sac, and a steal. Kyle Casson went 1/3 and scored a run. Joe Wilson homered, scored two runs, stole a base and went 1/4.

Joe Wilson went the distance on the hill (7 IP, 2 R, 6 H, BB, 8 K, HB). Catcher Josh Lee threw out a would-be base stealer at second. All stats are unofficial.

Yreka (3-3-1) is scheduled to play Hoopa at the Marble Mountain Tourney in Fort Jones at 7:00 pm on Friday night, weather permitting.
