COTTONWOOD – The Mt. Shasta High School cross country team shined at the Shasta Cascade League and Small Schools Division cross country championships, on Wednesday.
Mt. Shasta’s Mitchell Nesheim and Joanna Been won the boys and girls individual SCL titles, and both finished fourth in the division. Nesheim covered the 3-mile course in 17:34.00. Beem’s time was 20:58.00.
Etna Lady Lion Jilinda Franklin was second in the SCL and fifth overall (21:07.00). Right behind Franklin in sixth through ninth place overall were Lady Bears Cary Rogers (21:21), Kirsten Bree (21:28), Lisa Shinohara (21:36), and Cynthia Laiacona (21:55). Weed Lady Cougars Chelsea Quigley (24:36) and Ellie DeRoss (24:42) finished seventeenth and eighteenth out of 62 runners.
Mt. Shasta’s Andy Beem cracked the top ten for the boys in ninth place overall and fourth in the SCL. Weed Cougar Ryan Coates was tenth overall and fifth in the SCL. There were 80 competitors in the boys race.
The Mt. Shasta boys and girls teams were victorious in the team competitions.
