YREKA – The Siskiyou Babe Ruth 14s dominated Eel River Valley 13-4 at Hibbard Field on a toasty Saturday afternoon, to advance to the District-1 championship game.

Siskiyou’s Christian Charles brought the hammer, driving in four runs. Tanner Schaefer crossed the plate three times, and Colby Rimmer torched the base paths with three steals. Ryan Todd was “D-Man” in right field. Todd made a sweet running catch and doubled a runner off of first base, crushing an Eel River threat in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Eel River struck first in the bottom of the opening frame, taking a 1-0 lead. However, Siskiyou answered in the top of the second inning. Schaefer was hit by a pitch with two-out. Kevin Berry moved Schaefer to third base with a single. Schaefer then scored, when he managed to extract himself from a run down between third base and home plate.

Siskiyou took charge of the game with a five-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning. Preston Munson led off and was hit by a pitch. With one out, Schaefer drilled a double, moving Munson to third base. Munson scored on a wild pitch, and Schaefer moved to third base. With two down, Charley Reed was beaned to give Siskiyou runners on first and third.

A single by Russell Sweet plated Schaefer, and moved Reed to second base. Rimmer reached on an error to pack the bases. Charles then drove in a pair of runs with a base hit. When Charles went to second base on the throw home, Rimmer scored from third on the throw to second, giving Siskiyou a 6-1 lead.

Siskiyou led 8-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Eel River wasn’t sushi just yet, putting up three runs in the frame to narrow the gap to four, at 8-4.

Five runs in the top of the seventh sealed the win for Siskiyou, 13-4. Michael Elfgen had the big hit in the inning, a 2-RBI double.

Siskiyou used three pitchers in the game. Russell Sweet started on the hill, and Preston Munson and Colby Rimmer provided the relief.

Eel River will battle Eureka on Sunday at 4:00 pm for a chance at a rematch against Siskiyou in the championship game. Siskiyou smoked Eureka 11-1 on Friday in six innings. The Championship game is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Monday, July 6 at Hibbard Field in Yreka.
