YREKA - Veteran saddle cow competitor Daryl Lara of Hornbrook took the gold with his partner JD Rose of Montague at the Siskiyou County Saddle Cow Championship during the 2008 Siskiyou Golden Fair.

Each summer, the three community rodeos leading up to the fair hold Saddle Cow contests and the first and second place winners then advance to the championship competition at the Fair. Some teams place at more than one rodeo and then they get to choose which rodeo they want to represent. In that case, a third or even fourth place team at a local rodeo may end up at the championship.

Other championship winners include Larry Ferriera of Fort Jones and Laramee Collins of Weed taking second place and third place went to Aaron Coleman and Haley Stringfellow, both of Etna.

The 2008 Saddle Cow sponsors were RB’s Awards & More for the buckles and Heal Therapy for the cash prize.
