Yreka Golf Coach Bryce Cummings’ choice for the Thanks a Latte Yreka Miners Golfer of the Week is Maryssa Rodriguez.
Cummings had a great deal of praise for Rodriguez.

When you think of a team MVP you think of a player who can be dependable. You think of a player who can avoid the season ending injury. You think of this player as a team role model. Junior athlete Maryssa Rodriguez is an athlete with all the tangibles you want as a team MVP.
Coming off a great sophomore season, where she had qualified for sections, Maryssa was poised to have another great season with the Yreka High School Girls Varsity Golf team. Not only was this season a great one, it was one that should never be forgotten. As the team made its way through the season, Maryssa was able to score well in all her matches putting her in a position to battle for the NAL MVP title. It literally came down to the final round of golf where she had to play well to reach the rank of league MVP.
Unfortunately, Maryssa did not come home with the league MVP title. What she did accomplish was a Northern Athletic League All-League honor, and a trip to the section championships. She has gone further than any other player in YHS history, and is the first to achieve many things on and off the golf course for YHS.
Maryssa’s personality, along with her athleticism, allows her to be a great teammate and a great team captain. While sometimes quiet, she is always there for her teammates and is always trying to make everyone a better player on the golf course. Congratulations to Maryssa on an amazing Girls Varsity Golf season.
