y-ad-1-click.jpgThe basketball regular season ends for Siskiyou County high school basketball teams on Friday night, and for the College of the Siskiyous on Saturday night. A lot is still to be decided in both league standings and playoff seedings. High school playoff seedings are announced on Saturday, and will be posted on SiskiyouYouth as soon as available.

Boys

Shasta Cascade League

The Weed Cougars already have at least a share of the SCL title. Mt. Shasta wants a piece, as well. The teams collide in Weed on Friday night. A Weed win means the Cougars (9-2) get to wear the crown solo. A Mt. Shasta (8-3) win means a shared crown. Weed is currently ranked 2nd in NSCIF D-V. Mt. Shasta is ranked 6th in NSCIF D-IV.

The Etna Lions have been eliminated from SCL title contention. The Lions are fighting for playoff positioning, and are currently ranked 13th in NSCIF D-V. A win against Burney, may push Etna as high as a 10 or 11-seed.

Evergreen League

Tulelake (9-0) has wrapped up the Evergreen League. The Honkers came into the week ranked eighth in NSCIF D-V.

Butte Valley (10), Happy Camp (11), and Dunsmuir (12) are looking to improve their playoff seedings in NSCIF D-VI. Happy Camp and Dunsmuir battle on Friday. the loser may miss the playoffs.

Northern Athletic League

Yreka (1-8) is trying to at least share the cellar with Anderson (2-7), who they play on Friday night. Lassen is also 2-7. The Miners are currently on the outside looking in at the playoffs, ranked 13th.

Golden Valley Conference

The COS Eagles (2-7, 5-19) are just trying to make sure they don’t finish last in Conference all alone, when they play conference co-leader Shasta (7-2) on Saturday night.

Girls

Shasta Cascade League

Etna (9-2) and Mt. Shasta (9-2) are looking for wins against Burney and Weed, respectively, to catch up to Fall River (10-2) for a share of the SCL Crown. Etna is currently ranked 3rd in NSCIF D-V. Mt. Shasta is ranked 10th in NSCIF D-IV.

Weed needs a win to meet the minimum .500 requirement imposed by the SCL to qualify for playoffs. They are currently ranked 17th and need to move up to 16th. A win against Mt. Shasta would likely do it.

Evergreen League

Butte Valley is the league champion (9-0), and is ranked second in NSCIF D-VI.

Tulelake and Happy Camp are second in league, both at 6-3. Tulelake is ranked 12th in NSCIF D-V. Happy Camp is ranked 13th in NSCIF D-VI, but has not yet received credit for some wins, and will likely be closer to number-8.

Dunsmuir (1-8) is last in league and has virtually no chance at a playoff spot, ranked 17th.

Northern Athletic League

Yreka (0-9) is looking for a league win against Anderson (4-5). The Lady Miners are ranked 12th in NSCIF D-IV and still have a shot at playoffs…really.

Golden Valley Conference

The College of the Siskiyous Lady Eagles (7-2) are tied for second with Butte (7-2) in conference behind Shasta (8-1). A win over Shasta at home on Saturday would mean a share of the conference crown, and may be enough to earn the Lady Eagles a home playoff game. COS is currently ranked 8th in the North Region.
