Yreka boys win D-IV, girls 2nd at North Section XC finals, plus other results

The Yreka Miners boys cross country team won the NSCIF D-IV cross country championship on Thursday. Isaac Fernandez claimed the D-IV individual crown, covering the 3-mile course in 16:06.51. Blake Chitwood also cracked the D-IV top-10 for Yreka in 4th place (16:30.00).

Yreka was second overall in the section, as was Fernandez individually. Division-III Chico was the top team overall, with Charlie Giannini winning the individual title (15:44.80).

The Miner girls were 2nd to U-Prep in D-IV, and 6th overall. Marron Bahen finished 4th in the division (20:14.50), and Lena Fogle was 9th (20:43.88).

Both the Yreka squads advanced to the state championships to be held Saturday, Nov. 25 at Woodland Park, in Fresno.

In D-V, the Mt. Shasta boys were 3rd, and girls 4th. Trinity’s girls were 3rd and boys 4th.

Lauren Harper from Trinity won the girls D-V race (20:00.42). Marissa Bonivert of Mt. Shasta was 4th (21:30.61), and Etna’s Cassidy Gilmore finished 5th (21:53.22).

Griffin Hamann from Mt. Shasta was 8th in the D-V boys race at 19:12.82.
