The Yreka Junior All-Stars spotted Red Bluff four runs, but exploded for six of their own in the bottom of the 4th inning to take the lead. Yreka went on to win in convincing fashion 9-4, and capture the District-1 Little League title.
Aided by Yreka errors and some bad hops, Red Bluff scored a run in the first inning, two in the third and one in the fourth, for a 4-0 advantage.
Back-to-back hits by Joseph Callahan and Rance Zediker started Yreka’s offense in the bottom of the 4th inning. Both players would come around to score on errors. With one out, Quenton Yates and Tristan Zediker singled. Aiden Miller drove in Yates and Zediker with a base hit, tying the game 4-4.
Kobe Huston walked, and Isaac Deppen was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Miller scored on a balk, and Huston scored via an error, putting Yreka on top 6-4.
Yreka added three insurance runs in the 6th inning. Colby Persing led off with a walk, stole second base, and later scored on an error. Colton Knight took a one-out stroll, swiped second base, and scored on an error. With two down, Rance Zediker reached on an error, and eventually scored on a wild pitch, making the final 9-4.
Trey Bennett started on the hill for Yreka (2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K). Forrest Dean relieved Bennett in the third inning and notched the win (5 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 K). Stats are unofficial.
Yreka will head to Quincy on Monday, July 9 for the section tournament.
