Girls win, boys lose


REDDING – The Yreka Lady Miners softball team jumped out early and cruised to an easy 5-1 win over Redding Christian, on Tuesday. Yreka scored four runs in the first, and added another in the second inning. Redding Christian scored its lone run in the fifth inning.

Robin Lemos led the Yreka attack going 1-for-3, with two runs scored, and a walk. Stephanie Leyva was 1-for-4, with a run. Sara Jones and Kesha Betts each scored for the Lady Miners.

Kayla Graves got the start and the win for Yreka, going three scoreless innings. Graves gave up two hits, a walk, and struck out six. Robin Lemos pitched four innings, giving up one earned run and one hit. Lemos fanned eight, walked one, and hit a batter.

The Yreka Miners baseball team came up just short in their game against the Redding Christian Lions. The Lions scored single runs in the third and fourth innings. Yreka tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Redding Christian scored the game winner in the bottom half of the frame.

Lane Wilson went 1-for-3, with a run for the Miners. Andrew Jones was 1-for-3, with a double. Nate Lindley was also 1-for-3. Joe Wilson scored a run.

Wade Berryhill started on the mound for Yreka, going three innings and giving up one earned run, three hits, and a walk. Berryhill whiffed five and hit a batter. Robert Moeai was tagged with the loss. Moeai gave up two runs, no earned runs, three hits, and a walk. He struck out six and hit two batters.
